- Utwig description of homeworld as a Murky Bog as a reference to Beta Aquarii planet Sadal Suud, home of Llorio the Murthe, in "Rhialto the Marvellous" (Jack Vance, 1984) as a "a steaming quagmire infested by owls, gnats and rodents."
- Beta Corvi and Slylandro as a reference to Beta Corviki race (from planet IV, a gas giant) in "Dramatic Mission" of Anne McCaffrey's "The Ship that Sang"
- Theodore Sturgeon's "The golden helix", and Beta Librae/Supox?
