I support textualism, meaning that I think published material is most important. Opinions and statements from the authors are nice but not as important.
As for me liking Star Control, I like the Suppox, hence the username, and the Mmrnmhrm, Gg, ZFP, Chenjesu... most of the races, really. I love the history, backstory and culture in general.
