[[The Captain]] met this creature in Beta Orionis I, the [[Umgah]] homeworld. This talking pet was different from the others, cause the Umgah had somehow restored it's dormant sentience. It was now a fully sentient [[Dnyarri]], which like it's ancestors, could control minds. It controlled the entire Umgah race and even compelled the Captain to travel deep into the hostile [[Ur-Quan]] terratory. The Kzer-Za, however, let the captain go as a reward for revealing this new threath.

The captain returned after acquiring the mystical [[Taalo Shield]], which somehow prevented the creatures psychic attacks. after the captain destroyed the Umgah squadron sent to kill him, the creature suddenly changed approach, becoming deviously kind. It offered to help the captain to defeat the Ur-Quan, which the creature hated with every fiber in his body.

The Talking Pets are the genetic descendants of the sentient [[Dnyarri]] species who had once enslaved the original Ur-Quan and the [[Sentient Milieu]] through mental compulsion. After the Ur-Quan successfully defeated the Dnyarri in their [[Ur-Quan#Slave revolt|slave revolt]] and all Dnyarri except those remaining on the surface of [[Glilandy]] had been exterminated, the orbiting Ur-Quan captains who held Glilandy under siege decided that extermination would be too kind for the Dnyarri. Instead, the Ur-Quan decided to use their former masters as slaves, in revenge for their generations of suffering and as a reminder of their great victory. Ur-Quan scientists were able to extract the last of the Dnyarri population and genetically alter them, devolving their intelligence and personality down to sub-sentient levels, leaving them little more than biological machines.
