The New Alliance of Free Stars is the usual name used to refer to the loose confederation of races,1 so named after the original Alliance of Free Stars, which is the driving force behind the defeat of the Ur-Quan during the second Doctrinal War, thus saving the galaxy from enslavement and destruction.

Were it not for the arrival of The Captain in a highly advanced Precursor starship in 2155, the New Alliance would have never been formed, and the Ur-Quan would likely completely dominate, if not eradicate, all life in the galaxy.

The New Alliance at the start consists merely of the roughly 2000 humans aboard the Earth Starbase and The Flagship. The Captain though quickly makes contact with and enlisted the aid a few of the old allies, a number of previously unknown races, and even a former enemy. Some races do not become official members of the New Alliance, but do contribute resources to The Captain's cause. The races of the confederation can include:

*Chmmr
*Humans
*Orz&dagger;
*Shofixti&dagger;
*Spathi&dagger;
*Supox
*Syreen
*Thraddash&dagger;
*Utwig
*Zoq-Fot-Pik&dagger;
*Rebel Yehat&dagger;,&Dagger;
*Pkunk&dagger;,&Dagger;
*Arilou&dagger;,&Dagger;

:&dagger; Alliance largely contingent on player actions.<br>
:&Dagger; Alliance unofficial -- They assist greatly and provide ships directly without sending the captains and ship plans necessary to construct their ships yourself.

The Umgah and Druuge can also provide some ships to the New Alliance under the proper circumstances, but ultimately end up as enemies.

Aquillion: /* Tactical Overview */

__NOTOC__

The Chmmr Avatar is the culmination of the Mmrnmhrm and Chenjesu's combined technological prowess, replacing both the X-Form and Broodhome. The Avatar boasts the greatest firepower of any war ship to see mass-production in our region of space. As The Process was initiated with the intent of creating a race powerful enough to defeat the Ur-Quan Hierarchy, it is assumed that the Avatar was designed specifically for the purpose of defeating the Ur-Quan.

Propulsion
The Avatar possesses slightly higher maximum speed, acceleration and turning rate than both the Ur-Quan Dreadnought and Kohr-Ah Marauder; its mobility is roughly average. It is quite large, however, and appropriate care should be taken near gravity wells.

Armament
Primary
The Chmmr have designed the most devastating laser in the galaxy, so powerful that it ionizes the solar wind, causing visible sparkles in the void. Capable of burning through the toughest of armor in moments, this laser makes head-to-head weapon exchanges with the Avatar a suicidal proposition. Some sources describe this primary weapon as a "heavy X-ray laser."1 Unlike the other laser weapons, the Avatar's laser inflicts two damage per hit. The laser fires continuously while the weapon button is held down, allowing it to trigger as much as 24 times a second. While undeniably powerful, this weapon's range is relatively short.

Secondary
To overcome its range deficiency, the Avatar is also outfitted with a powerful tractor beam capable of pulling ships into the Avatar's maw by generating a field of artificial gravity. The effect of the tractor beam depends on the mass of the targeted spaceship. Massive ships experience less gravitational acceleration than smaller ships. However, an affected ship must also be fast in order to overcome the pull of this device. Slow ships and lightweight ships will inevitably be dragged in. Non-inertial spacecraft such as the Arilou Skiff, being unaffected by gravity, are immune to the tractor beam.

Additional
In addition to its already formidable arsenal, the Avatar is orbited by three automated laser turrets nicknamed "ZapSats". These are intended as both a form of protection and close range fire support. ZapSats will shoot repeatedly at any enemy projectile or ship within their reach. Given their high rate of fire, ZapSats are quite effective at negating a variety of different weapon systems. While all three ZapSats are functional, the Avatar is virtually unassailable when pitted against certain adversaries. Each ZapSat has 10 hit points.

Tactical Overview
* While the Avatar is not the fastest of ships, its tractor beam indirectly increases its speed. With judicious use of the tractor beam, the main weapon can quickly be brought to bear on many unfortunate foes. The tractor beam can also be used to interrupt an opponent's gravity whip or even pull an opponent into the planet. However, both the main laser and the tractor beam can deplete the Avatar's power banks if overused. Indiscriminate use of the tractor beam can also send an opponent into a high speed trajectory, potentially giving them an advantage.

* Ships that typically fare the best against the Avatar are those which can maintain a position outside of the Avatar's weapon range and shoot through its satellite ring. Ships capable of shielding themselves from damage can also threaten the Avatar by using their shield to overcome the Avatar's overwhelming firepower and attacking it from beyond its reach when able. The Avatar is much easier to defeat after its ring of ZapSats has been destroyed; the simplest way to destroy them is to aim to the side of the Avatar and shoot 'opposite' the direction of the ZapSats' orbit, so they're carried into your shots by their motion and have little opportunity to intercept.

Aquillion: /* Optional events */ -- Since there are pages for all the crew Fwiffo killed, they might as well be listed here.

Captain Fwiffo of the Spathi Eluder StarRunner is a 25-year veteran of the Spathi navy and the last member of the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za's Earthguard forces. Along with the rest of the Earthguard, he was assigned to Sol to keep an eye on the slave-shielded Humans.

The Ilwrath withdrew to find better sport and the other Spathi, uneasy at being so close to their enemies and far away from home, fled to join the other Spathi defending Spathiwa from the Ultimate Evil. Unwilling to directly defy Ur-Quan orders, the Spathi retreated in small groups, until a single individual was left to captain a vessel by himself in literal obedience to the Ur-Quan, although the actual mission was abandoned in spirit.

Biography and military career
Fwiffo was the youngest in a family of 18,487. He had a rough childhood where his father had to work hard to make ends meet. His parents, unwilling to spend too much effort in raising him, kicked him out of the house to fend for himself. While daydreaming about the great wealth he could accumulate in a civilian career, he was hit by a vegetable cart and knocked uncouncious. He was robbed of all of his money by strangers and shangaied into the navy by unscrupulous recruiters while still unconscious, thus forcing him into an unpleasant military career.

Fwiffo served on board the StarRunner as a crewman. As the Spathi to successively lose the most Puun-Taffy decision rituals, he became the Captain of his vessel and sole Earthguard member. It is unknown whether this was sheer bad luck or the result of manipulation by his comrades: Fwiffo appears to have developed a notorious reputation within the Spathi Navy as being particularly cowardly, weak-willed and impressionable by even Spathi norms, making him doubly so from the point of view of a Human.

Optional events
This unimpressive military record eventually leads Fwiffo down the path of heroism. At this point, the Spathi Earthguard had already retreated to Pluto to remain as far from danger as possible. While exploring for minerals, The Flagship's landing crew discovered Fwiffo's ship on the surface of Pluto. In a panic, Fwiffo opened fire on the landing party, killing Kowalski, Fritz, Chin, O'Donnell, Luigi, and all three of the Liebermann Triplets. Seeing The Flagship orbiting above Pluto in a threatening posture, he became even more fearful and immediately contacted The Captain, apologizing profusely and telling him the location of Spathiwa and the Secret Spathi Cypher.

The Captain is understandably upset, but if he suppresses his anger and speaks to Fwiffo calmly, he eventually convinces Fwiffo to join his fleet. Fwiffo becomes one of The Captain's first allies and friends during the Second War. Like most Spathi, Fwiffo's innate reflexes and tactical ability only manifest themselves when he is forced into combat from which he could not escape, but such situations occur often in his days with The Captain's fleet. The StarRunner is one of the New Alliance's most valuable tactical assets early in its life.

Prevented from returning to his home planet after it was slave-shielded by the Safe Ones, Fwiffo is forced to throw his lot in with the Humans and their Alliance for the foreseeable future, hoping at the same time to somehow achieve his goal of retiring to a comfortable villa on a beautiful, secluded, and safe planet.
