==Suggestion: Sources==

<font color="green">I would like to add information to this walkthrough about where in the game the player can find the information provided here. For example, I'm about to finish my first play through, and I know from the web where to find the Sa-Matra, but I don't know how to find this information in-game, although the [[Chmmr]] indicate that it is possible. If the walkthrough has information about what hints exist in the game, so that the player can generate a more realistic sequence of events, and is less likely to miss out on interesting dialogue. There haven't been any changes to this page in a year, so I'm going to go ahead and do it. Feel free to revert, but if you do so, please reply here. --[[User:Lanken|Lanken]] 3 August 2008</font>

I agree (I've mentioned this too somewhere). As for how to find the Sa-Matra, the Zoq-Fot-Pik tell you it's in Crateris, for example see [http://sc2.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/sc2/trunk/sc2/content/base/comm/zoqfotpik/zoqfotpik.txt?view=markup here]. Welcome, by the way. Feel free to join us on the forums too :) --[[User:Zeracles|Zeracles]] 21:10, 4 August 2008 (CEST)
==Avoid Unnecessary Spoilers==

<font color="green">For some of the quests detailed here, the instructions are written in a florid style full of details about what will happen in the course of the game. This kind of spoiler should be avoided in favor of a style that gives away less of what the game has in store.--[[User:Lanken|Lanken]] 3 August 2008</font>

==Major Re-Write==
<font color="green">I have made major changes to this article in accordance with my two statements above, and to bring it more into accordance with wikipedia style (more formal writing). Apart from the stylistic changes, the big difference is that I have reduced the spoiler content while preserving the information needed for players to get past wherever they are stuck.--[[User:Lanken|Lanken]] 3 August 2008</font>

==Available Game Endings==
Regarding the suggestion about available game endings which was put here recently but then removed, I'd be inclined to put them on this page rather than on a different one, because a walkthrough tells one what not to do and why, thus it makes sense to me for it to mention alternative, losing endings. Another reason I wouldn't put these on another page is that I'm not aware of all that many alternative endings to the game, so it could be a short page. The ones I know of are
*die in combat
*detonate precursor/utwig bomb prematurely (by using this device before the ideal ending)
*run out of time and succumb to the Kohr-Ah
*surrender to the Kzer-Za
*it may be possible to become stranded in hyperspace irrecoverably, exhausting all the things you might give the melnorme in exchange for fuel; this might not be a distinct ending as it leads either to slowly being picked apart by encounters with slylandro probes or waiting for the Kohr-Ah to come along. Another way to run out of fuel perhaps is to make lots of planet landings . . . not sure if the melnorme come to help you in this instance, could be one to try.

The surrender and detonation ones really aren't very interesting. As well as more losing endings, wouldn't it be cool if there were many other ways to win . . . --[[User:Zeracles|Zeracles]] 20:50, 5 August 2008 (CEST)

:If you don't have anything of value to trade, the Melnorme will give you fuel for free. Making lots of planet landings is no problem either, as travel within a solar system doesn't cost fuel, so you can enter HyperSpace and wait for the Melnorme there. You can however, piss off the Melnorme the first time you meet them, in which case they won't come to your rescue in HyperSpace when you need them later. &mdash; [[User:Svdb|SvdB]] 23:08, 11 August 2008 (CEST)
=='Bad' Players==
I finished the game ''very'' late, while the [[Kohr-Ah]] had already wiped up almost all sentient life in the Galaxy - in this order, if you were curious and not as a bad player as I was: the [[Druuge]], the [[Mycon]], the [[VUX]], the [[Yehat]] (while they were engaged in civil war, no less!), the [[Orz]] (!!!), the [[Zoq-Fot-Pik]] (which saddened me immensely...), the [[Pkunk]], the [[Umgah]] (good riddance), the [[Arilou]] (of course, their QuasiSpace pocket-world was untouched) and the [[Utwig]], missing the [[Supox]] by a hair's breadth. The only survivors outside of the [[Chmmr]] were the [[Syreen]], the Humans, the [[Slylandro]] (I think...), the Shofixti (altough they never really caught on, what with the Yehat dead) and the Supox. Additionally, I let the [[Ilwrath]] and [[Thraddash]] annihilate each other. The happy-happy ending felt extremely wrong after witnessing this. My Captain came across as a huge jerk in total denial who probably spent many nights crying naked in his bedroom with a bottle of whisky in one hand and a loaded hand-blaster in the other. I think I'll go to hell for this.

As a result, I never met or spoke with the Druuge, the Mycon nor the Thraddash, yet I still completed the game. I simply had to land on the now-inhabited worlds and grab the artifacts, no quest nor fights necessary (I ''will'' go to hell). Needless to say, my endgame was extremely rushed, as I realized what was happening and zapped around the Galaxy through QuasiSpace to hit all the key locations I had noted down before the Kohr-Ah killed everyone. Putting my embarassing "victory" aside, should the walkthrough mention what ''really'' bad players should expect?

:: Don't worry - all these strange alien races - it wouldnt have worked out anyways... who knows what the buggers are up to :)
:: The Humans and the Sex-Toys er... i mean the [[Syreen]] survived and that's the ticket...[[User:199.74.98.75|199.74.98.75]] 10:29, 19 May 2007 (CEST)

<font color="navy">Just a few things. How is this going to differ from [[Ultronomicon:Game events]]? Or, what will this walkthrough do that that article doesn't? The structure of the game is very non-linear so a traditional walkthrough would be difficult. If this walkthrough is going to be significantly different, you should probably use the game events article as a guide for mentioning required/optional events and order of events (when it exists) since I believe Phoenix and Svdb hashed those out fairly well. --[[User:Fyzixfighter|Fyzixfighter]] 21:10, 17 Dec 2005 (CET)</font>
: <font color="maroon">This Walk-Thru will be an in-depth, step by step guide to fisnihing the game. When I first played Ur-Quan, I got lost many times (lost meaning what to do next, not where I was in the universe ;)) and a guide would have helped me to see where I was and what I was supposed to do next. Alas, no guide exists on this Wiki so I have decided to create one myself, having completed the game recently. I wasn't aware [[Ultronomicon:Game events]] existed. <font color="navy">The standard that seems to have developed on this site for referring to planets/moons is "Zeta Centauri Ia", though I can't recall where or if we discussed this in depth. The star name followed by the roman numeral for the planet is typical of most of the in-game conversations. At the moment I can't find any in-game reference for the moon designation, but the lower case letters w/o hyphen designation is similar to that used in the [[Role Playing Resource Guide]]. I can't remember if there was a unique designation when in orbit of the moons in the PC version - none exists in UQM. --[[User:Fyzixfighter|Fyzixfighter]] 21:10, 17 Dec 2005 (CET)</font>
: <font color="maroon">Hmm. My original idea was to have small notes when something is first addressed, so the bigger the Walk-Thru gets, the less notes you'll see at the end of it. For eg, since mining minerals and fighting has already been addressed, it wont be elsewhere. However, if I move the notes to the bottom of the page, what do you think would be the best way to link them? <font color="navy">Before I start a minor edit war, I'd better explain some of the edits I had made to the article. The heading structure needs to be revisited in order to follow wikipedia conventions as described in [[Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings)]]. Only the title of the article should be H1, which is done automatically. All other headings in the body of the article should be H2 or more. That said, I think you could take out the "Welcome..." heading, which seems to serve the same purpose as the article title, and have that paragraph be the opening paragraph for the entire article. This would be kind of awkward, though, given the "work in progress" heading above so you might have to move stuff around. --[[User:Fyzixfighter|Fyzixfighter]] 08:33, 18 Dec 2005 (CET)</font>
<font color="navy">As to the Pkunk, they never actually join the cause. They do consider you a friend and offer ships on occasion, but they never formally ally with you nor send their ship designs and captains to the starbase. Thus, I think "assist" is a better description than "join" for their role. Yeah, it's a bit nitpicking but it's also being accurate. Sorry to dip in late, but as I recall, the "Star_name IIa" designation for moons comes from the original PC version of SC2. That's the schema I used when first creating the various articles describing moons in the star system. This page is a work in progress. It would be appreciated if you use the following techniques when adding to or editing this guide:
*''' 'Original' ''' work only! No plagarism from other guides for Star Control 2.
*''' 'Order' ''' every step so it is in the order of how it would normally be executed. These include not only categories, but the individual steps in those categories.
*''' 'Separate' ''' compulsory quests (ones that need to be completed to finish the game) which go at the top of the guide and optional quests (ones that don't need to be completed to finish the game) that go in their own section at the bottom of the guide.
*''' 'Detail' ''' every step. Leave no stone unturned. If the player needs to go to a planet, print the name of the planet (for example 'Delta Gorno, Planet II'), the hyperspace co-ordinates of the constellation (for example '285.0 : 025.0'), and if you have to visit the moon, append X after the planet number (where X is a lowercase letter denoting the number of the moon). So if someone has to visit the first moon of the first planet of Zeta Centauri, you should print something like 'Zeta Centauri, Planet Ia (146.3 : 077.9)'.
*''' 'Link' ''' whatever text you can to other pages in this wiki so people will be able to see what you are talking about.
*''' 'Add' ''' style to all of the steps. Don't have it all in one paragraph. The preferable ordering would be * (indentation). Also use headings so users can see what they are going to do next.
*''' 'Keep' ''' hints, comments, and links separate from the other content to avoid confusion by encasing them in the hint template: <nowiki>{{hint|hint goes here}}</nowiki>

</td>
</tr>
</table>
