__NOTOC__

The Chmmr Avatar is the culmination of the Mmrnmhrm and Chenjesu's combined technological prowess, replacing both the X-Form and Broodhome. The Avatar boasts the greatest firepower of any war ship to see mass-production in our region of space. As The Process was initiated with the intent of creating a race powerful enough to defeat the Ur-Quan Hierarchy, it is assumed that the Avatar was designed specifically for the purpose of defeating the Ur-Quan.

Propulsion
The Avatar possesses slightly higher maximum speed, acceleration and turning rate than both the Ur-Quan Dreadnought and Kohr-Ah Marauder; its mobility is roughly average. It is quite large, however, and appropriate care should be taken near gravity wells.

Armament
Primary
The Chmmr have designed the most devastating laser in the galaxy, so powerful that it ionizes the solar wind, causing visible sparkles in the void. Capable of burning through the toughest of armor in moments, this laser makes head-to-head weapon exchanges with the Avatar a suicidal proposition. Some sources describe this primary weapon as a "heavy X-ray laser."1 Unlike the other laser weapons, the Avatar's laser inflicts two damage per hit. The laser fires continuously while the weapon button is held down, allowing it to trigger as much as 24 times a second. While undeniably powerful, this weapon's range is relatively short.

Secondary
To overcome its range deficiency, the Avatar is also outfitted with a powerful tractor beam capable of pulling ships into the Avatar's maw by generating a field of artificial gravity. The effect of the tractor beam depends on the mass of the targeted spaceship. Massive ships experience less gravitational acceleration than smaller ships. However, an affected ship must also be fast in order to overcome the pull of this device. Slow ships and lightweight ships will inevitably be dragged in. Non-inertial spacecraft such as the Arilou Skiff, being unaffected by gravity, are immune to the tractor beam.

Additional
In addition to its already formidable arsenal, the Avatar is orbited by three automated laser turrets nicknamed "ZapSats". These are intended as both a form of protection and close range fire support. ZapSats will shoot repeatedly at any enemy projectile or ship within their reach. Given their high rate of fire, ZapSats are quite effective at negating a variety of different weapon systems. While all three ZapSats are functional, the Avatar is virtually unassailable when pitted against certain adversaries. Each ZapSat has 10 hit points.

Tactical Overview
* While the Avatar is not the fastest of ships, its tractor beam indirectly increases its speed. With judicious use of the tractor beam, the main weapon can quickly be brought to bear on many unfortunate foes. The tractor beam can also be used to interrupt an opponent's gravity whip or even pull an opponent into the planet. However, both the main laser and the tractor beam can deplete the Avatar's power banks if overused. Indiscriminate use of the tractor beam can also send an opponent into a high speed trajectory, potentially giving them an advantage.

* Ships that typically fare the best against the Avatar are those which can maintain a position outside of the Avatar's weapon range and shoot through its satellite ring. Ships capable of shielding themselves from damage can also threaten the Avatar by using their shield to overcome the Avatar's overwhelming firepower and attacking it from beyond its reach when able. The Avatar is much easier to defeat after its ring of ZapSats has been destroyed. When attacking ZapSats with a barrage of projectiles, more of your shots will connect if you shoot into the path of oncoming ZapSats as their orbit draws them toward your ship.

* The Guardian in particular poses a significant threat to the Avatar, as it can easily use its Blazer form to wedge itself into one of the Avatar's wings, causing lethal damage within a small time frame. The Marauder is also a concern, since it can dispatch all of the Zap-Sats with a single close-range FRIED attack. Both of these ships should be countered with a careful attention to both range and angle; the Avatar's laser is incredibly powerful, but it cannot strike anywhere other than the 16 standard angles defined by the Star Control engine. This gives enemy ships a 22.5 degree clearance to attack the Avatar freely if the pilot is not careful. The tractor beam can be used in these cases to throw off their angle of attack slightly, in which case the laser can be used to finish the job.

* In the final battle against the Sa-Matra, the Avatar is a logical choice, due to its inherent defense systems against the Sa-Matra's passive defenses(i.e. the Zap-Sats), and the unlimited resources available to the Captain at this point in the game. However, the slow speed of the Avatar is its major downfall in this battle, and the Zap-Sats are easily incinerated by the fireballs. It may take several Avatars to kill the Sa-Matra if the player isn't careful.

The Pkunk Fury is a colorful, flowery war ship which relies on superior mobility to outmaneuver and pick apart its enemies. It is also a wildcard, able to literally defy death at unpredictable intervals. While lightly armored and slow to recover its energy banks, the Fury can be very deadly with a skilled pilot at the helm and luck on its side.

Propulsion
The Fury is among the fastest known spacecraft to travel the stars. The ship's maximum speed is almost totally unmatched -- it takes special subsystems designed for a temporary speed boost or a planetary slingshot maneuver to go beyond that. The Fury's rate of acceleration is exceeded only by the Slylandro Probe and Arilou Skiff as well as certain subsystems on a few other ships. The Fury also boasts the fastest possible turning rate, equal to that of the Probe and Skiff.

Armament
Primary
The primary weapon is a triple-mounted minigun that fires forward and to each side simultaneously. Each of these miniguns can pump out super-heated metal pellets at an incredible rate, though over a very limited range. The pellets are rather large, so they are sometimes good for shooting down incoming ordnance.

Secondary
The Pkunk are peaceful beings which normally cannot bring themselves to kill unless they throw themselves into an emotional frenzy by continuously broadcasting insults at their enemies. Additionally, the psychic emanations produced by the Fury captain's frenzy will recharge the ship's energy stores in small increments.1

Additional
If destroyed, there is a fifty percent chance the Fury will be reincarnated — fully crewed, with maximum energy. This is due to the Pkunk's divine heritage, or so the Pkunk claim.2 Due to the random nature of Fury reincarnation, a lucky Pkunk can be reborn many times.

Tactical Overview
* Being a fragile ship, the Fury does not usually hold up well in a head-to-head weapons exchange. However, certain ships with low firepower are susceptible to the Fury's high burst damage. Minigun pellets are decent at shooting down small enemy projectiles, allowing some head-to-head exchanges to end in the Fury's favor. The Fury will otherwise need to do a lot of dodging and weaving if it does not have the upper hand in terms of weaponry. Broadside attacks using either of the side guns as the Fury flies past its target are usually the best way to go about this.

* While the Fury is capable of inflicting high burst damage, it suffers from a long downtime due to painfully slow energy regeneration. Additionally, it only takes half a second to run the ship's battery from full to empty. For these reasons the Fury is very much a "hit and run" attacker. The "Special" key is best held down for the entire duration of combat to maximize energy recovery.

* There is a common firing pattern used by many Fury pilots known as the "Death Blossom". This technique is performed by holding down the fire button and a turn button while leaving the thrusters off. In addition to being visually impressive, the Death Blossom is good for laying down fire in every direction. However, higher damage output can be achieved in most circumstances by aiming manually during an attack run.

* The Fury is arguably the best ship in the game to use against the Sa-Matra. The Fury is fast enough to avoid the Sa-Matra's passive defenses (the green energy balls) which will quickly dispatch most other assailants, as well as its active defenses (the fire balls). The multidirectional firing pattern of the Fury's guns allows the ship to use its "spinning" attack to do grievous damage to the shield generators. Combined with the Fury's reincarnation ability, a single Pkunk Fury is quite capable of knocking out all of the Sa-Matra's shield generators alone, if it is lucky and/or skilled enough.
When it comes to the most powerful single-shot weapons, the first thought of many starfarers is the Ur-Quan Dreadnought's Plasma fusion cannon, which can eliminate 6 crew in a single shot. However, the Hellbore Cannon does just as much damage. It is unclear whether the Melnorme developed this weapon or if it is of Precursor origin. Either way, it is the most powerful weapon module available for The Captain's Precursor Flagship — it does fifty percent more damage than the Fusion Blaster module, and just seven shots can take down a Dreadnought or a Kohr-Ah Marauder.

It can be made at a cost of 6000 RU, though the technology must be purchased from the Melnorme, and it can only be purchased after buying nearly every other upgrade. Be warned, however, that it takes a massive amount of energy to fire (6 energy units per gun), and without enough Combat Dynamos and Shiva Furnaces, The Flagship will be left defenseless while it waits for enough energy to recharge.
