DEAR LORD, this thing is fanfiction-y. It doesn't even try to hide it. I'm deleting at least the made-up excerpt from the made-up book.

In fact, I'm going to add a protest to the whole way the ship things have been written. This is an encyclopedia, not a collaborative strategy guide -- right now instead of trying to give objective information on the stats for each ship they're riddled with personal opinions about how well ships work, which encourages a very slangy, subjective style. I vote that we start overhauling the ship guides to actually focus on information and move the little piloting tips and ship-to-ship comparisons and discussions of how cool ships are to separate sections, if we have to keep them, or better yet tell people to take that sort of thing to the forums.

'''My Post''' by [[User:SamYeager|SamYeager]]

Lord forbid anyone tries and puts heart into their work. The background of the creative portions of the pages are to make it more readable. And that means putting a little creativity in what's being written. If what you're looking for is an outline, then add a damned outline in there. After all, it is Wikipedia here and we're all authors. But the simple fact of displaying information in any form refutes the pure objectivity behind the fact. This is because you must decide on what information should be included and how it should be laid out.

Now I noticed, Mr. 130.58.225.137 (if that's your real IP), that you didn't bitch about the way the page was categorized. The simple truth is that I (me, [[User:Fadookie|Fadookie]], me) built the framework for the categorization. [[User:Nic|Nic]] was kind enough to integrate it into the majority of the other ships' pages and improve upon it. But the original framework was set up to A) completely encompass all ship in-game attributes, such as physical image, weaponry, nagivation, and other unique and relative traits and B) to provide a more realistic encyclopedia entry as if an actual person in the [[Star Control Universe]] had written the entry.

130.58.225.137, if you've read as many encyclopedia as others have, you'd realize that things aren't necessarily as cut and dry as one might expect, especially in the more subject-specialized encyclopedia. They are loaded with personal mannerisms and high-falutin praise and completely utter disdain because, as it turns out, people are people. Excerpts from other texts can be found. Footnotes from the authors abound the lower edge of the pages like hand-made animations if the leaves were to be quickly thumbed.

Cut-and-dry is the manner in which FAQ's are written solely for the completion of the video game. We could write that a [[Skiff]] is 7/8 in terms of speed. And we could say that the [[Syreen]] are "A female species locked up under a [[slave shield]] at the beginning of [[Star Control II]]. The End." And we could say the [[Mmrnmhrm]] are simply robots without even mentioning the [[Chmmr]], the [[Alliance of Free Stars]], or the [[Mother Ark]] (someone please put a listing for Mother Ark; it's also on the [[Mmrnmhrm]] page). But we have more to say than that, and the pages reflect the information there is to tell, and some of it's guessed or unknown or even false (see [[Glilandy]]).

You strip the [[Star Control Universe]] of its livelihood and its intrigue by tearing down its foundation on creativity and imagination.

It's the few like you who have led me to abadon any effort on this site. You want your house without nails. You want your Cap'n Crunch without milk. You want everything without delicate metaphysical adhesive that cleaves it all together.

Damn your ilk, for changing handjobs to kisses, and deleting well thought-out imagery in the form of fictional non-fiction, and "Smack!"ing adversaries though yourself being unarmed of English. The thought of doing well is there, but the ability to perform is unhoned. Kids do not get to play with Roto-Tillers even if they do want to help because they don't know what they're doing.

An encyclopedia can be written by multiple authors, and can be lauded by one another individually for their own individual contribution. I'll even admit this thing has shaped up despite its utmost subconcious intentions.

But it's not perfect. Acceptance is what is lacked. I accept your criticism, 130.58.225.137. I accept your opinion. I accept your editing. Perhaps it was indeed for the best. But I do not accept your intolerance.

Of course, the truth is both one's heart and one's work will always get torn to shreds, and I accept this too.

The '''Syreen''' are a race of bipedal hominids astonishingly similar to the [[Humans]]. There has been much speculation about the [[Human/Syreen speculation|relationship]] between Humans and Syreen.

==Physiology==

Physiologically and genetically, Syreen ''are'' human: the only visable differences between the races are that Syreen skin tint is somewhat more bluish and their retinas reflect light like an Earth cat's. Additionally, the typical Syreen is more comfortable in a slightly warmer and more humid environment than the typical Human.

Syreen are also more psychicly active than humans, to such an extent that the captain of a [[Penetrator]] starship can make use of a psychic amplifier to coerce enemy crew. It is not known if Penetrator captains are chosen for exceptional psychic potential, or how common psychic potential is in the general Syreen population, although they do not evince casual telepathic powers that races such as the [[Pkunk]] or even the [[Zoq-Fot-Pik]] do.

On Earth, stereotypes of the Syreen are rampant: matriarchal, "Space Amazons," "Space Gypsies," "warm, breathing pinups," and other sorts abound. Of course, the truth is more complex than such stereotypes would imply.

==History==

Syreen society, like Human society, developed from hunter-gatherer tribes. But unlike Humanity, the Syreen were unplagued by war or other great social upheaval, instead joining together until their whole world was a single, peaceful, agrarian super-community. Also unlike Humanity, Syreen society and Syreen military roles were dominated by the females of the species. How connected these two facts are is a topic of some debate in both Human and Syreen intellectual circles.

Shortly before the advent of the [[First War]], the Syreen suffered a terrible set back. Their homeworld, [[Syra]] (located at the star the Humans call "Beta Copernicus I"), was by all accounts a tropical Eden. However, a catastrophe destroyed nearly all life on the planet, reducing the population to those stationed in orbit as part of the Syreen Space Patrol (the vast majority of which were female) and a few planet-bound survivors. The Syreen gathered the remains of their species into space habitats (mostly incapable of [[HyperSpace]] travel) and began to search the galaxy for a new home.

As the First War began, and with no homeworld to fall back to, the Syreen maneuvered into Human space to avoid [[VUX]] raiders. It is implied but not explicitly acknowledge that Humanity's industrial base supported the Syreen fleet. The Humans and Syreen also participated in at least one crew exchange, confirming the viability of Human/Syreen crossbreeding and bolstering the Syreen's flagging population.

After the defeat of the [[Chenjesu]], the [[Mmrnmhrm]], and finally Humanity, the Syreen were abandoned by the remainder of the [[Alliance of Free Stars|Alliance]] and left to face the [[Ur-Quan Kzer-Za|Ur-Quan]] alone. They surrendered, and in exchange the Ur-Quan searched their planetary database to find them a new homeworld. This homeworld, renamed [[Gaia]], orbits the star Betelgeuse.

The Syreen were content to remain neutral at this point until [[The Captain|Zelnick]] proved to them that the destruction of Syra was in fact engineered by the [[Mycon]] using a [[Deep Child Egg Case Fragments|Deep Child]]. After wreaking their revenge upon the Mycon, the Syreen joined with the [[New Alliance of Free Stars|New Alliance]].

==Notable individuals==

The only named Syreen of note in [[The Ur-Quan Masters]] is Starbase Commander [[Talana]].

These strange biological samples were thick mats of organic fibers, similar in structure to that of terrestrial fungi, but far greater in strength and resistance to heat than any structure contained in any other known life form. They were found, bearing signs of huge physical stresses, near unusual volcanic formations on the worlds known as [[Shattered Worlds]], worlds with all the characteristics of Earth-like life-bearing worlds except their unusually high level of tectonic activity, causing an extremely high-temperature, violent climate. These worlds included [[Syra]], the original [[Syreen]] homeworld, changed into a Shattered World after an unusual asteroid collision. They were first discovered by human [[The Captain|Captain Zelnick]]'s crew; based on preliminary observations and on references made by the [[Melnorme]] to the role of the [[Mycon]] "Deep Children" in the destruction of Syra, scientists guessed these '''Deep Child Egg Case Fragments''' were Mycon in origin, despite the fact that the egg case's curvature indicated an egg at least 25 meters in diameter, much larger than the average Mycon.

It soon transpired that, in fact, Mycon Deep Children were a Mycon subspecies, enormous organisms genetically programmed to terraform planets; encased in the tough egg cases, the Deep Children collided with the planet's surface and burrowed out into the planet's interior, causing the massive tectonic shifts of a Shattered World. Though it is unclear how he came by them, Zelnick acquired at least one set of these fragments and provided the crucial evidence needed to convince the Syreen Commander [[Talana]] of the Mycon's responsibility for the devastation of Syra, bringing them into the war on the [[New Alliance of Free Stars|Alliance's]] side.

At last report, the [[Druuge]] were willing to pay exorbitant prices to study these egg fragments; the purpose is unknown, but it can be inferred that the ability to synthesize such a resilient, heat-resistant substance would be invaluable in improving the performance of the crude chemical-burning furnaces that power the Druuge's overburdened technological infrastructure.
As the Ultronomicon is still young, we don't yet have our own set of documents on style and content.
If you have a problem with (part of) a page, by all means edit it. No one "owns" a page.
''For more information see [[Wikipedia:Be bold in updating pages]].''

===Signing off on Talk pages===
It is helpful when people can quickly see who wrote what on Talk pages.
To this end, place '<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>' at the end of your message; it will be replaced by your name and the current date and time.

===Comment, comment, comment!===
Comment. It's easy to do and prevents headaches down the road.

==="Minor" editing checkbox===
If you should make a very minor change to a page, such as a spelling or grammatical correction and nothing else, put a check in the "This is a minor edit" checkbox just below the comment field. By applying "minor" edits that can be filtered out when browsing page histories, the editing process is streamlined.

__NOTOC__
==Overview==

After the establishment of the theory of relativity by Jewish German-American physicist Albert Einstein in the early 20th century, [[Humans|Terran]] scientists were disappointed by the fact that conventional physics cannot allow normal objects to travel faster than light in [[TrueSpace]]. Even after the discoveries of FTL (faster-than-light) technology and [[HyperSpace]] travel (thanks to the aid of the [[Chenjesu]]), they again encountered a second stumbling block on the limit of power produced by an engine. "If only we could control inertia...," the scientists complained again and again. Enter the [[Arilou Lalee'lay]] '''Skiff'''.

Utilized mainly as a means of conveyance in [[TrueSpace]] and piloted by the pacifistic [[Arilou Lalee'lay|Arilou]], the blue saucer-shaped Skiff is designed mainly for exploratory missions and boasts minimal defensive weaponry, but it has one envious quality: an inertialess drive.

==Speed and control==

When not [[#Secondary|travelling at FTL speeds]], the Skiff flies, or rather glides, through [[TrueSpace]] at extremely fast speeds (though not as quickly as the nimble [[Spathi]] [[Eluder]], n&eacute;e [[Discriminator]], or [[Pkunk]] [[Fury]]). Its inertialess drive gives it the smallest turning radius in the galaxy -- 0 m! -- and of course the turning rate itself can't be beat. No inertia also means instant acceleration (and deceleration), as well as no gravitational effects from planetary objects or anything else for that matter! Surprisingly enough, the helm contains no physical controls at all; the captain telepathically controls the ship, thus requiring only a skeleton crew to operate it!

==Armament==

===Primary===
The Skiff's main and only true weapon is a ventral 360-degree short range auto-aiming laser. Meant to simply deter prowlers and pirates from seiging the ship and to surgically cease the roamings of stray space debris, it can be used as an offensive weapon with limited results. Damage is minimal and technique and timing are crucial. Two of the major drawbacks of the targeting system are that:
# it only tracks the ion trails from warp-drive capable exhaust systems thereby neglecting smaller craft such as [[Ur-Quan Kzer-Za|Ur-Quan]] slave ships or [[Orz]] marines.
# it has a discrete firing pattern, limiting the direction in which it can fire.
Particular skillful captains are able to minimize the shortcomings of the limited weaponry with carefully-timed firing and cunning [[#Tactics|tactics]].

===Secondary===
Utilizing the power of the inertialess drive, the secondary armament is a short-range [[HyperSpace]] shunt transportation device allowing instantaneous teleportation. While extremely useful in making a quick exit from a heated sortie, the range is limited once again to a single yet significant factor. Range is determined using fourth-dimensional [[QuasiSpace|QuasiSpatial]] movement, which is heavily distorted by FTL sub-spatial harmonics, particularly near starship warp drives. Thus Skiffs hardly have the ability to attempt a long-range teleportation when even a FTL-capable ship as small as a [[Umgah]] [[Drone]] is nearby. Additionally, the shunt is nearly impossible to guide due to the relatively minute range (on a galactic scale) that the Skiff is able to teleport when such an object is close by. Because of this, undesirable results often occur and, in the small chance of materializing inside of a planetary object or even another ship, can prove to be fatal. However, such catastrophic occurences are still extremely rare.

==Layout and design==
Due to the telepathic nature of the [[Arilou Lalee'lay|Arilou]], few conventional devices other than a hull that can withstand [[TrueSpace]] and a weak laser are needed to produce the shell of the Skiff. However, the building and implementation of the inertialess drive and the [[HyperSpace]] shunt teleporter are beyond current [[Humans|human]] techonology, not to mention finding a superlative telepathic crew of midgets who can bond to the ship's internal systems. Still, the hull of the Skiff is as simple as it gets: tall enough for a 1.5-meter tall person; and perfectly round for uniform psionic harmonics; and blue -- very, very blue... oh, and headlights. The guts... well, that's a little bit tougher to explain.

==Miscellaneous==

===Tactics===
Due to the difficulty in winning a dogfight through brute-force, [[Arilou Lalee'lay|Arilou]] captains have been forced to take more clever methods of vanquishing foes. The following are three of the most commonly used methods.
*'''Gun and run'''
::Agility and speed are the two strongest attributes of the Skiff. Why not exploit them? Heading directly into enemy fire can be advatangeous given the opponent's barrage is slow enough and the Skiff's captain is nimble enough. Once close enough to the enemy ship, even the directionally-challenged auto-aiming laser can do its job without missing. Leave enough fuel for a quick jump, and >poof< the Skiff is out of harm's way!
*'''Planetary ambush'''
::With no inertia, the Skiff is the only vehicle entirely immune to gravitational effects from nearby planets even when it's sitting right next to it! Letting the bloodlust overcome an adversary's judgment, the perceptive [[Arilou Lalee'lay|Arilou]] captain can capitalize on such egregious foolhardiness. Sitting on the far side of the planet as the enemy ship approaces, the opponent cannot both aim accurately and guide his ship to safe course (with some exceptions, eg. the [[Supox]]). Seizing such opportunities nets maximal damage to the opponent as he slingshots past the ambushing Skiff without ever having the ability to fire a single shot at the clever [[Arilou Lalee'lay|Arilou]]!
*'''Cyborg shimmy'''
::With the reactions of a well-timed computer, an expert Skiff captain can sometimes approach an enemy vessel in a direction that it can't even fire! This feint requires split-second timing at the helm that no [[Humans|human]] could possibly match! It's even more devastating for the ship captain who can't quite catch his [[Arilou Lalee'lay]] opponent off-guard!

__NOTOC__

==Overview==
When the [[Androsynth]] departed [[Earth]] ''en masse'' in 2085 during the [[Clone Revolt]], no [[Human]] had ever imagined that one could take to the stars at faster-than-light speed. Clever, cunning, and imaginative, the Androsynth outwitted their human creators at every turn by keeping low-key until an opportunity presented itself. In retrospect, it should have been no surprise that the pride of their space fleet, the dumpy little blue pod known as the '''Guardian''', would hide something a bit more sinister inside its modest packaging, the sight of one quickly becoming the ultimate fear of all mankind.

==Speed and control==
In its normal configuration, the Guardian is far from the fastest ship around, but it can still beat the pants off an [[Intruder]]. With its turning rated slightly below average and its acceleration only slightly above, the "wow!" factor of this ship is dismal.

However, in [[#Secondary|Blazer]] form, the "wow!" factor soars higher in the sky than an [[Ur-Quan Kzer-Za|Ur-Quan]]-imposed slave starbase. Speed? Faster than [[Fred Ford|God]]! Turning? On the ''edge'' of a dime! Acceleration to full speed? Slightly quicker than the infamous nanosecond [[Syreen]] handjob! The only problem is that its "wow!" leaves as quickly as it comes. Then you're back to being your normal, puny, limping blue pod self. No puns intended.

==Armament==

===Primary===
The Guardian's main weaponry is an acidic bubble launcher. The acid bubbles themselves are specially engineered with highly-intensified surface tension cohesion in order to survive the rigors of space. pH levels of these molecular space-mines are so acidic that no substance outside a laboratory setting has been able to withstand contact with it.
The acid itself seems to sense biological material as it always heads in the direction of the nearest living object! This inorganic-guidance mechanism has been dubbed "Chaos&trade; tracking" by the subject's premier reseachers. On top of that, the Guardian holds a great store of this bubble-creating acid that can be released nearly instantly without destroying the launcher or the vehicle!
It still baffles scientists today as to how the Androsynth were so ingenious as to not only invent this substance, but to also build a space-faring weapon with such deadly effect to others without any detriment to itself or its crew! It is unfortunate that this secret may now be lost forever...

===Secondary===
There is one of two ways to defeat an enemy in a head-on battle: be stronger or be faster. The Androsynth decided both options were best when they developed Blazer technology, and did they succeed! One tug of a rope and the Guardian sheds its crusty blue cocoon and morphs into a beautiful blazing deadly comet, which just about vaporizes anything it touches! Never mind the G-forces! This puppy gets so fast it can rip an [[Earthling]] [[Cruiser]] into shreds in seconds! Get it wedged into an [[Orz]] [[Nemesis]] and watch the fireworks ensue! Even [[Spathi]] captains try to wedge themselves deeper into their nooks when the big, bad Blazer comes a-knockin'. And they were on [[Battle Thralls|the same team]]!

There are a few bugs in the system though. Once the Blazer form has been initiated, it burns up all available fuel until there is none left. And once it does that, it reverts to normal form and comes to a dead stop like it was a space-anchor. And there's no better irony than when a Guardian's captain is peeling his face off the comm-screen after his Guardian ran out of gas, only to find a nuclear missle being forcibly shoved up his exhaust diffusor!

==Layout and design==
Little blue beetle. Little blue space-buoy. Little blue traffic light. Little blue garbage can. The Androsynth are experts when it comes to being mocked. The humble, modest, petite Guardian is ''indeed'' little and ''indeed'' blue, but it roots are designed with utmost efficency.

A small red, translucent cylinder makes up a small central crew cabin with enough room to house a minimal host of crew. Surrounded by bluish round discs that probably house the means to create and distribute the Chaos&trade;-tracking acid and topped with a little green acid launcher, the Guardian appears less menacing than an [[Umgah]] [[Drone]]. And don't be fooled by the comm-screen picture of the many Androsynth controlling the ship. It's a simple comm-screen-saver deftly engineered to hide the true Androsynths captain's orders.

Once in Blazer form, fear has a name. Perfectly round and engulfed with glowing red-pink fire, it becomes apparent why the Androsynth tolerate so many insults. It is because they ''indeed'' have the upper hand.

==Miscellaneous==
===The Guardian as a Symbol===

Below is an excerpt from P. N. [[Hawthorne]]'s ''The Rise and Fall of the Synthetic Empire'', published in 2198:
<small>
:When the Androsynth blasted forth into the heavens, humanity found itself in a state of shock. '''How?''' many asked dumbly. '''How could they desert the hand that shaped their face?''' Few had understood why the wretched 'Synths would have taken such drastic action after the years of abuse from their less-than-benevolent "Creators." Off they went into the sky, off into a land where they could control their own destiny, and out of the hands of every human man, woman, and child... supposedly never to be seen again. It was too late for the human race to repent for its sins; the Androsynth were gone. And when their grief finally overwhelmed them, there would be no absolution. Mankind was not able to ask forgiveness because they was no one left to ask forgiveness of.

:And when [[First War|war]] came hurtling across the bounds of space and runneth over into Earth's threshold, and when humans were forced to face an unstoppable opponent, lo! it was an Androsynth face facing back. Their eyes shone. Their teeth glistened. They wanted pain! They wanted revenge! And they wanted blood... Their hatred fueled their return, and their cunning bolstered their resolve.

:With Androsynth warships whipping in and out and out and in across the Terran skies, appearing as quick as morning dew and disappearing into the vast darkness beyond, it was too similar to the same manner in which they had left years before! The Guardian became a symbol of true Androsynth independence: the tool with which to defeat their creators! An angelic spear of cometous fury! A Human killer! And we were lost... broken by our own creations... our own tools... our own clay...

:And in the end when the Androsynth disappeared from [[TrueSpace]] altogether, did they blast off into a new realm not only beyond the Earth and beyond the Sun but also beyond all the known Universe -- like a Guardian blazing a new path into the night sky? Or did they overexert themselves into a inescapable pit of [["They"|indescribable vengeance]], whose hatred outmatched their own -- like a Guardian blazed out of fuel directly next to a vengeful [[Scout]]? Or could it be that they have finally transcended and achieved the godliness that we failed at administering?

:I have wondered this for decades, but in vain. Time will never tell, for the book on the Androsynth has been closed to the human race once again. And forevermore.

:Long live the Androsynth! Long live the keepers of the Guardian!</small>

__NOTOC__

==Overview==
The multi-colored [[Spathi]] '''Eluder''', formerly known as the [[Discriminator]], remains bulk of the [[Spathi]] fleet even 20 years after the War. Its construction, though seemingly chaotic, is carefully designed to mimic its crew's natural attributes: paranoia, elusiveness, and cowardice.

==Speed and control==
The Eluder is one of the fastest ships in the galaxy, both in top speed and acceleration, and has a turning radius an [[Arilou Lalee'lay]] would be jealous of. Though agility would be a mighty boon for most brute-force fighter ships, the Eluder is anything but brute... or a force... or even a fighter, for that matter. The fact is the thrusters primary use isn't for speeding into battle, but rather for speeding away from it! From this perspective, the Eluder performs admirably! The helm of the Eluder is quite large and is typically manned by two Spathi at once, but in times of emergency (mainly when he's the only crew member left) the captain usually whips into a adrenaline-filled panicked frenzy and finds the ability to man both halves of the helm nearly simultaneously by himself!

==Armament==

===Primary===
The Eluder's main weaponary consists of a quick-firing, short-range, low-impact plasma pellet. Great for sneak attacks and guerilla tactics or just to finish off a severely-handicapped adversary (which are the only direct attacks a [[Spathi]] would consider), the plasma pellet is otherwise limited in its usefulness.

===Secondary===
The secondary weaponry epitomizes the essence of true [[Spathi]]-ness due to its ability to do the most damage while the Eluder is in full retreat! The Backwards Utility Tracking Torpedo (B.U.T.T.) is a medium-range, low-impact conventional space torpedo with a good automated guidance system and moderate speed and manuevering. Fired from the rear of the craft, B.U.T.T. missiles do most of the dirty work in the dogfights as Eluders make their way away from the fray. Enemy captains foolish enough to think it can run down an Eluder usually end up learning a fatal lesson in space warfare.

==Layout and design==
From the outside, the Eluder consists of many bubble-shaped, solid-colored cabins joined together by smaller white corridors. The intention of having so many large seemingly crew-filled projections is in part to obfuscate enemy into targeting the decoy cabins and to direct enemy fire away from the main bridge. However, in practice, enemy weapons seem to incapacitate the same amount of crew no matter where the Eluder is damaged. This is most likely due to the fact that even in the safety of a large starship, the crew is bound to hide in every nook, cranny, and hole the ship has to offer in the case of direct combat. And, unfortunate for the [[Spathi]], there are many of these crannies throughout the ship as it was [[Spathi]] engineers who designed it to begin with, making the deceptively non-crew-filled decoy cabins actually full of petrified crew members. To make matters worse, even the crew itself can be confused by the ship layout. In fact, the random cabin configuration has fooled many a green-eared [[Spathi]] captain who haven't grown used to the ship's odd design, especially as they're slinking away from the bridge during particularly nasty, or even mildly "scary," dogfights.

==Miscellaneous==
===Rumors===
A small note should be added that it may be possible that perhaps a few Eluders exist that are painted all black with red stripes. The legends of the [[Black Spathi Squadron]], lead by a small band of courageous, brave [[Spathi]] rebels, who attempt to lead its brethren to freedom, have been passed down for several generations. However, the credibility of this legend is dubious at best seeing as how even the most courageous [[Spathi]] in the known universe are little short of "completely terrified."

=== Tactical Overview ===

You are not part of the [[Black Spathi Squadron]]. You should not be brave. Oh no! An Eluder is a coward’s ship, designed by a coward, built by cowards and flown by cowards. There are only two types of Eluder Captains: The Brave Dead and The Living Cowards. Never meet face-to-face with a foe. The Eluder will never be able to Hammer, Pummel, Blow or Smite an enemy. The Eluder must wear its enemy down little by little. An effective Spathi tactic is showing them your butt and then giving them your BUTTs.

Strong Against: Hooray! The Eluder is capable of wearing down the [[Kzer-Za]] [[Dreadnought]] easily. When facing (or running away from) a [[Kohr-Ah]] [[Marauder]] there is the “Plibnik Maneuver” – run away in a straight course, sidestepping spinning wheels and whenever you go beyond BUTT range, make a complete circle (Turn+Acceleration) to allow her to return into range before continuing in the former course. [[Mycon]] [[Podship]]s have a hard time handling the Eluder, especially if you can force them to swallow their own Plasmoids.

Weak Against: Smack! Fast ships such as the [[Pkunk]] [[Fury]] and [[Slylandro]] [[Probe]] and naturally the [[Chmmr]] [[Avatar]] who's zap-sats render the the BUTTs completely useless.

__NOTOC__

==Overview==

==Speed and control==
Their membership in the [[Ur-Quan Hierarchy]] is a very dubious one, having been given the wrong straw, so to speak, by the mischievous [[Umgah]].

In 1936, Dale Carnegie wrote the world-reknowned, aptly-titled, best-selling book on interpersonal relations, [http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v1=3&ti=1,3&Search_Arg=how+to+win+friends&Search_Code=TALL&PID=7499&CNT=25&SEQ=20041006053804&SID=3 ''How to Win Friends and Influence People'']. In it, his first piece of advice was to never criticize any person, under any condition. In 2119, it became apparent that this held true for any alien as well, as Captain '''Jeffry L. Rand''' was to painfully discover.

Rand was the [[human]] captain of the starcruiser ''Far Voyager'' that made first contact with the [[VUX]] near Beta Mira in 2119 at the beginning of the war. Previously unknown to any species but the [[Yehat]], Rand's objective was to make a favorable impression on the VUX in order to secure their allegiance into the [[Alliance of Free Stars]].

Before even introducing himself on behalf of the human race, Rand made a fatal diplomatic blunder when he blurted an insulting remark to his lieutenant regarding the appearance of the VUX captain who had just appeared on the com-screen. Not knowing that the VUX had translated every word and that they were (and still are) an extremely vain race, all diplomatic relations were immediately severed before any ties were even sewn.

Needless to say, Rand's seemingly small affront cost the Alliance a valuable ally and gained them an adversary bitter to this very day. And there is no doubt Mr. Carnegie is still rolling in his grave.

From all available evidence, the '''Precursors''' are the first species to evolve sentience and explore the known universe. They moved quickly to become masters of the galaxy, leaving evidence of their presence virtually everywhere. However, it appears that the Precursors vanished from the galactic scene quite suddenly, but there is no indication as to why.

The height of Precursor culture seems to have been approximately 200,000-250,000 Earth years ago. The Precursors reigned for only a few thousand years before they vanished.

While the species itself appears to be long gone, evidence of their existence still remains. Various artifacts of Precursor origin have been discovered on any number of worlds. The largest artifacts known to date are the [[Sa-Matra]] battle platform discovered by the [[Ur-Quan]], the Precursor factory discovered underneath the surface of Vela 1 ([[Unzervalt]]), and the 10 [[Rainbow Worlds]] found throughout this region of space, which seem to have been used as dumping grounds for their civilization.

From the recovered Precursor artifacts, it has been determined that as a species they were a race of "shaggy giants", perhaps 5-8 meters tall and twice as wide.

The only species that has been confirmed to have first-hand contact is the [[Slylandro]]. However, due to lack of writing implements, much of their knowledge of the Precursurs has been lost over the passing time. The Slylandro do mention that prior to the mysterious exodus, the Precursors were frantically searching for something and were obviously "worried" over the situation. Their last transmission seemed to indicate that the Precursors had found the answer they were searching for, and that the arrangement of Rainbow Worlds would give a hint as to where they went.

The old '''Alliance of Free Stars''' was an co-operative alliance of seven free starfaring races to oppose The [[Ur-Quan Kzer-Za|Ur-Quan]] and their Hierarchy of [[Battle Thralls]]. [[Humans|Humanity]] joined the Alliance in 2116 AD, 4 years after first contact with the Chenjesu.

Though the Alliance fought valiantly, eventually they were defeated by the Hierarchy in 2134. Four of these races were [[slave shield]]ed, one joined as a Battle Thrall, one disappeared, and the last sacrificed itself in a blaze of glory rather than being enslaved.
The New Alliance of Free Stars was constructed when [[the Captain]] arrived at [[Earth]] star base in 2155. Though the new alliance only started with about 1000 humans as their force, over the next few years, the Captain quickly gathered most of the old allies back and even some new and powerful ones.

The new Alliance proved its strength after the Captain cleverly tricked the Ur-Quan and their counterparts, the [[Kohr-Ah]], and attacked and destroyed [[Sa-Matra]], a formidable [[Precursor]] battleship. Chaos immediately followed in the Hierarchy and the combined power of Allied starships and [[Chmmr]] forces swiftly defeated both Ur-Quan races and brought freedom back to the quadrant.
==Overview==
The Ur-Quan Hierarchy is a massive force controlled by the [[Ur-Quan Kzer-Za]]. The internal command structure of the hierarchy is not known, although there is speculation that an Ur-Quan Lord's number (i.e. Lord 999) may be equivalent to rank.

The external command structure is well-documented. The Ur-Quan are superior to any given race in the Heirarchy regardless of their station in Ur-Quan society (if one exists). After this, the [[Battle Thralls]] exist to fight for the Kzer-Za. They are governed by Ur-Quan slave laws, but retain some degree of autonomy. At the bottom of the chain are fallow slaves who chose not to fight for the Hierarchy and were [[Slave Shield|slave-shielded]] on their home planets.

'''QuasiSpace''' is a green, tranquil dimension. It is the smallest known dimension, and so offers a very quick mode of travel. QuasiSpace provides access to [[Falayalaralfali]], the home to the [[Arilou Lalee'lay]], which live in a different dimension much like the [[Orz]] or [["They"]] who possibly decimated the [[Androsynth]]s. QuasiSpace features several portals into [[HyperSpace]], but there is only one portal to QuasiSpace from [[HyperSpace]] in the quadrant. This portal is located in the [[Arilou Lalee'lay|Arilou]]´s sphere of influence, the Chandrasekhar constellation, and is open for three days every month -- from the 17th to the 20th. Apart from this "natural" portal, QuasiSpace can only be accessed via the [[QuasiSpace Portal Spawner]].
