This page contains a table for ship countering in Player vs. Player Supermelee games. The table is read as follows:
- Left-most cell: The ship for which counters are listed
- Hard counter: Ships that are almost certain to destroy the ship
- Soft counter: Ships that might destroy the ship, but usually require that the ship is either damaged before hand or some luck is involved.
- Odd matches: Ships that might do the trick, but may just as well fail awfully.
- Stalemates: These are matches which will result in neither of the ships getting any hits in. Avoid these matches at all costs.
- The definition of a counter is "A ship that can take out another, more expensive ship". Usually the difference in value is more than just a point or two, while in some cases it is considered that a more expensive ship is the de facto counter.
Note: If you think something belongs in this chart, please ask on #uqm-arena before doing your changes.

Shiver's Balance Mod
Shiver's Balance Mod attempts to balance UQM by changing ship costs, modifying some ship stats, and radically changing some of the more broken ships. There are quite a few changes to the ships. The net result is that gameplay is more balanced, with a few designated hard counters. Capital ships are good against most ships, and have one hard counter.

- 1While this is not a true counter price-wise, it is necessary to use overwhelming force to reliably take some ships down.
- 2This ship is not necessarily sufficient by itself, but can do enough damage to soften up the enemy before another ship.
- 3Slylandro is a ship which is as powerful as its pilot is. At times Mmrnmhrm can defeat Slylandro without taking much damage, but a skilled Slylandro pilot can avoid all Mmrnmhrm fire
- 4The vanilla Thraddash Torch is usually banned in competitive Supermelee as the ship is broken beyond repair
- 5While this ship is too overpriced to recommend in vanilla UQM, this is a good use if you must have it
