According to the Commander Hayes, the starship Far Voyager, under the command of Captain Jeffry L. Rand, made first contact with the VUX in 2119. Hayes admits the report is sketchy, but it is generally accepted that, sometime during this encounter, Rand offended the VUX captain with an inadvertant insult. This account is in contrast to information provided by the Star Control II manual, which attributes the Earthling Cruiser Miwok with first contact.
