Solar System

  • Make sure you visit every planet in the Solar system, and completely scan them (only where the game permits, of course).
  • Venus is a dangerous planet with a low mineral yield and is better left alone.
  • Mercury can be very risky as well - unless you are skilled with landing, it is also better left alone.
  • Radioactive Materials have been found on the moons orbiting the gas giants (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) before. This could prove useful.
  • Pluto is on the left, nearer the top of the screen than the bottom. The other smudges on the outer orbit are just stars in the distance.
  • Whatever you do, do NOT leave the Solar system until you are absolutely positive you have done all the missions there and explored all safe planets.

Resources

  • Learn to distinguish minerals by their colors from the scan, and remember not to waste fuel collecting the cheapest ones.
  • You can just leave the smallest mineral deposit (2 RU's of Barium) on Mars, for example.
  • Notice that if you shoot mineral deposits, even just once, they are completely destroyed.

Battles

  • If you have difficulty with the first battle, try exploring the entire solar system first. It's bound to have some sources of interest.
  • Expect to lose crew, even in the first system you visit, but don't lose any needlessly.

General

  • Listen to what the starbase commander has to say.
