The New Alliance of Free Stars is the usual name used to refer to the loose confederation of races,1 so named after the original Alliance of Free Stars, which is the driving force behind the defeat of the Ur-Quan during the second Doctrinal War, thus saving the galaxy from enslavement and destruction. Were it not for the arrival of The Captain in a highly advanced Precursor starship in 2155, the New Alliance would have never been formed, and the Ur-Quan would likely completely dominate, if not eradicate, all life in the galaxy.

Command Structure

Leadership

The Captain of The Flagship is the founder and leader of the Alliance, and takes charge of all exploration, foreign relations, military command, trade and resource gathering. Commander Hayes is in charge of the Earth Starbase and serves as the main liaison with Allied starship captains, as well as providing logistical support to the Captain. As other races join the Alliance, their leaders contribute to its missions, especially Fwiffo, the Spathi captain, Talana, Hayes' counterpart at the Syreen starbase, and Braky Girdy the First, Queen of the newly reunited Pkunk and Yehat Braky Girdy the First

Headquarters

The Earth Starbase serves as the primary location for the command and control of the Alliance. The crew consists of roughly 2000 Humans, under the leadership of Commander Hayes. When races formally join the Alliance, or seek contact with the Captain, they approach the Starbase.

Membership

The Captain makes contact and enlists the support of a few of the old allies, a number of previously unknown races, and even a former enemy. Some races do not become official members of the New Alliance, but do contribute resources to The Captain's cause. The races of the confederation can include up to 13 races.

Full Members

Up to ten full members send delegations to the Earth Starbase, including captains and ship construction plans, so that the Captain can build their ships for the Flagship's support fleet. Typically, Commander Hayes will report this information to the Captain.

Unofficial Members

Up to three unofficial allies will assist greatly and provide ships directly to the fleet without sending the captains and ship plans necessary to construct their ships yourself.'

Alliance largely contingent on player actions.

Limited Support

A pair of races can also provide some ships to the New Alliance under the proper circumstances, but ultimately end up as enemies and are never considered as Allies.

Notes and references

1Note that the "New Alliance of Free Stars" is one of the choices of terms in the game for the confederation. Other choices are available: "The Concordance of Alien Nations", "The United Federation of Worlds", and "The Empire of {The Captain}" ("The Captain" is replaced with the captain's name).
