But, I think Sol should have an image for each of its planets, just to give an idea of the varied game art.  Jupiter has its big Red Spot, Venus spins in the opposite direction at 177º, Uranus spins on its side at 98º.  IMO, these are beautiful, little, accurate touches added to the game by creators.  I think that should be acknowledged.

I hope this doesn't tick anyone off - but I just redirected the Io, Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto pages to here. The moons are not really notable beyond the fact that they are named, that they are in the Sol system, that Ganymede was used by the Spathi, and that Io and Europa are alternate sources of radioactives. It might be nice to put the net RU value of each since this is the 1st system players explore, but imho that's getting a bit too crufty for my tastes. If anyone disagrees or thinks they can make the articles actually worthwhile, the old articles are still accessible through the edit histories. --[[User:Fyzixfighter|Fyzixfighter]] 07:32, 11 November 2006 (CET)

Revision as of 06:32, 11 November 2006

Are these really necessary? They seem sort of to fit in the same category as those constellation things. The planets of our solar system are of interest in real life, but in the game they're not that special or notable.

Indeed. IMHO, only the Pluto (because of Fwiffo), Earth, and Earth's moon deserve a mention. - SvdB 11:34, 12 May 2005 (CEST)

I hear what you're saying, and that is part of why I haven't gotten into adding any images to these just yet. I wanted to post a bunch of planetary descriptions and see how well recieved they would be. Doing the planets in our solar system seemed like the best way to get started to me.

I do plan on making lists similar to what I've done so far for resource-rich worlds. I also realise that snapshots of what the actual planet looks like is not entirely necessary. I'm considering taking them out entirely.

The other side of the argument, is to list every single planet and star system in the game, making for a true "complete" reference. As you said earlier, that would be of interest in real life, but not so much for the purposes of the game.

For now, I'm going to cruise around in the game and come uo with a list of worlds that would be useful, and not just of general interest.

Actually Chimmera, I liked your idea of adding a few images to the Sol system, at the very least. Adding an image for every planet and moon and system in the game does seem a bit of an over kill.

I think it would be more useful to:

  • list the systems
  • the number of planets in that system
  • the moons of that system
  • the planet types
  • their conditon - inc. gravity to show fuel use
  • their resources
  • their bio

But, I think Sol should have an image for each of its planets, just to give an idea of the varied game art. Jupiter has its big Red Spot, Venus spins in the opposite direction at 177º, Uranus spins on its side at 98º. IMO, these are beautiful, little, accurate touches added to the game by creators. I think that should be acknowledged. --PsiPhi 22:46, 23 Jun 2005 (CEST)
