The Zoq, the Fot, and the Pik (from left to right)
The Zoq, Fot, and Pik are three separate races that evolved simultaneously on a jungle-like world. Zoq-Fot-Pik look like little green frogs/plants, blue springy things, and mute one eyed creatures, though usually even they can't say which is which. Having once been threatened by the carnivorous Zebranky they formed an alliance and destroyed them.
This alliance led to very big technological advances which eventually formed the current Zoq-Fot-Pik race. They spend much time together and usually argue about many things, including Frungy, which is a sport some Zoq-Fot-Pik are obsessed about.
Their fighter-ship is called the Stinger and is known for its deadly tongue attack.
The Zoq-Fot-Pik first entered the galactic fray when they found their colony worlds were playing host to terrible space battles. These battles unleashed titanic forces as the two sides fought, and when they missed each other the small Zoq-Fot-Pik colonies suffered.
Having heard from "the great crystal ones", seemingly a reference to the Chenjesu, of several races who often helped each other, the Alliance of Free Stars, they set about making contact. The Alliance by this point however was already defeated. Years later The Captain met with them at Rigel. They relayed their dismays to him and begged for his help. It turned out that the battle taking place in their space was the Ur-Quan ceremonial Doctrinal Conflict.
The militarily weak Zoq-Fot-Pik were only marginally helpful in defeating the Ur-Quan, but the value of the information they brought early on to the New Alliance of Free Stars cannot be denied.
Possible name origin
- The name "Zoq" may originate from "frog" ("q" is "g" mirrored; "f" is the 6th letter of the English alphabet, while "r" is the 18th, and 18+6=24, which is near "z" - the 26th letter). It even sounds "froggy".
- The name "Pik" may originate from "pike", since the Pik have a rod-like shape.
- The name "Fot" may refer to the .fot file (A small file automatically made by Windows 3.1 when installing a TrueType font. Seemingly unnecessary, it simply points to the *.TTF TrueType file. It's a relic of the way even older versions of Windows handled fonts. This is similar to the Fot's role, since he just points the one speaking with his eye and seems unnecesary) or to the word "foot" (since they seem sessile, which means that they just "stay on their foot/feet".
Sources of information
One of the first reports from Commander Hayes regards an unknown transmission coming from Rigel; the source of the transmission is a single Zoq-Fot-Pik Stinger seeking contact with the old Alliance of Free Stars. The captains of this ship can give the coordinates of the Zoq-Fot-Pik homeworld.
Relevance to the plot
While relations with the Zoq-Fot-Pik are not necessary, they provide quite a lot of valuable information, as well as the blueprints to their Stinger starships.
Soon after an alliance is established, Hayes relays an urgent plea for help from the Zoq-Fot-Pik whose homeworld is under attack from a battle group of Kohr-Ah Marauders. Without immediate assistance, the Zoq-Fot-Pik are obliterated.
Notes and references
- 1This indentification of who is who in this image is based on the source code. In-game it is never clearly stated which one is the Zoq, the Fot, or the Pik; the characters themselves argue over who is the Fot.
