List of alien life-forms
Below is a list of all alien life-forms encountered by The Captain or his crew, or mentioned by reliable sources. This does not include generic bio types (although it includes unique ones) or sentient races (with the possible exception of "Them").
Algolites[edit]
- Main article: Algolites
Mentioned by the Melnorme. The term "Algolites" refers to either the totality of life-forms inhabiting Algol IV, or to a sentient species living of that planet. Most of the atmosphere of their world was stripped off in an accident involving Spathi colonists who wanted to make "a few minor, climatic adjustments", but who panicked and fled when the terraforming equipment went out of control. As a result, the Algolites are now extinct.
Charg beast[edit]
Mentioned by the Pkunk. The Charg beast, although it is a ferocious creature, still cannot single-handedly defeat a pack of Ibids, a feat for which it needs assistance from seven or eight Wrinkle Dogs.
Chimt[edit]
Mentioned by the Utwig. The Chimt are something with which the Utwig claim to have at one point shared their homeworld. They are described as having tendrils of some sort and as having emerged from the Murky Bog. The Chimt are connected with the events that precipitated Utwig Mask Etiquette. An Utwig captain explains that "the tendrils of the Chimt infiltrated the vast sky canopies of Fahz and then the veils fell! Suddenly, the Utwig were stunned by a collective realization! All immediately and urgently donned veils of every description!" However, any references on this subject are obscure and not easily understood without further explanation by the Utwig. Interestingly, the story of the Chimt resembles a similar creation story found in some Human religions about the Garden of Eden. What became of the Chimt, or even whether they actually existed, is unknown.
Dgrunti[edit]
Mentioned by the Shofixti in the context of the insult "wallowing, phlegm-filled Dgrunti belly-licker".
Dhrang[edit]
Mentioned by the Shofixti in the context of the insult "You pitiful imitation of six-weeks dead Dhrang!"
Dravatz[edit]
Mentioned by Fwiffo in the context of the claim that the Spathi "possess the best qualities of both the clam and the Dravatz".
Drell[edit]
Mentioned by the Utwig. The Drells were worn alive by the Utwig as masks during their ancient past, when they realized that the face is the source of all negative aspects of a sentient being. Apparently, the Utwig now find strange the idea of wearing a living creature as a mask.
Evil Ones[edit]
- Main article: Evil Ones
Encountered on Spathiwa. The Evil Ones are quickly-breeding, carnivorous teddy bear-like creatures who appeared on Spathiwa four centuries before the events of Star Control II, transported there by an unknown agency (possibly the Umgah), and who preyed on the Spathi. This greatly accelerated the Spathi's progress, causing them to advance from the bronze age to the atomic age in less than a century, after which the Spathi fled Spathiwa and settled on the planet's moon.
Grah[edit]
- Main article: Grah (life-form)
Mentioned by the Ilwrath and the Role Playing Resource Guide. The Grah became extinct as a result of a bureaucratic error committed by the Ilwrath, who had been using the Grah for ritual sacrifices for some time, carefully maintaining them on the brink of extinction. This led to a decrease of "quality death in ceremony", being one of the major factors that precipitated the Ilwrath revolution of 2147.
Ibid[edit]
Mentioned by the Pkunk. The Ibids group into packs to protect themselves from the ferocious Charg beast and possibly other predators. The Charg beast cannot successfully assault a pack of Ibids unless aided by seven or eight Wrinkle Dogs.
Iccamullon[edit]
Mentioned by the Star Control II manual. The Iccamullon are a species of giant plants with blue flowers, native to Unzervalt. The databanks from the Precursor installation on the planet identified several plants, but specifically the Iccamullon, as possible food sources for the early Human colonists; the plants have the same proteins, sugars and starches as found in traditional Earth crops. The colonists harvested these plants for food and eventually planted crops, possibly including the Iccamullon.
Libixx[edit]
Mentioned by the Star Control II manual. The Libixx are one of the species native to Unzervalt. They are red-brown in color and resemble winged rabbits. Their cell structure, internal organs, and flesh are very similar to that of Earth mammals. It is no surprise that the beasts were identified by the databanks at the Precursor installation on Unzervalt as one of the possible animals that could be used for food. The Libixx were probably used principally as a meat source; The Captain himself was raised on Libixx meat and Ortog milk as a youth on Unzervalt.
Ortog[edit]
Mentioned by the Star Control II manual. The Ortog are one of the species native to Unzervalt. They are 2,000 pound creatures resembling a cross between a cow and a lizard, having six legs and pendulous udders. Their cell structure, internal organs, and flesh are very similar to that of Earth mammals. The Ortog were identified by the databanks at the Precursor installation on Unzervalt as one of the possible animals that could be used for food. Much like cows on Earth, the colonists used the Ortog as a source of both meat and milk. They also were known to make clothing out of Ortog hide. The Captain himself was raised on Ortog milk and Libixx meat as a youth on Unzervalt.
Pootworm[edit]
Mentioned by the Pkunk in the context of a pseudo-philosophical discourse meant to prove The Captain that he is alive, when they first greet him in space. The Pkunk claim that they love the Pootworm and could not conceive of doing even the slightest harm to it.
Sneegel bird[edit]
Mentioned by the Pkunk. The sneegel birds are apparently migratory. During migration, they fly in flocks.
Talking Pet[edit]
- Main article: Talking Pet
Encountered in dialogues with the Ur-Quan, and on Beta Orionis I. The Talking Pets are the descendants of the Dnyarri whom the Ur-Quan, as punishment for having enslaved their race, reduced to sub-sentience and forced to serve aboard Dreadnoughts and Marauders as translators. One of them was genetically engineered back to sentience by the Umgah, and eventually took control of the whole Umgah race. The Captain captures this Talking Pet, and he proves to be of great use in the final attack on the Sa-Matra.
"They"[edit]
- Main article: "They"
Encountered by Bukowski on Eta Vulpeculae II, the Androsynth's adopted homeworld. "They" are mysterious and sinister extradimensional beings whom the Arilou Lalee'lay describe as being dangerous parasites. It is unknown whether they are sentient. Their projections into TrueSpace are the Orz.
Trooba Fern[edit]
Mentioned by the Utwig. The Trooba Fern is a plant which they use to make the masks of the Expression of Ultimate Gratitude, together with beetle secretions.
VUX Beast[edit]
- Main article: VUX Beast
Encountered on Delta Lyncis I. The VUX Beast is a monstrous predator which ZEX greatly desires to possess; he offers to trade the Shofixti Maidens for the Beast, although the trade cannot be completed due to the Beast escaping and killing ZEX. The Captain then recovers the Maidens from ZEX's menagerie. There is only one known VUX Beast in existence.
Wart Wumpet[edit]
Mentioned by the Pkunk. The Wart Wumpet can vomit a small, round gobbet stone, whose surface sometimes has little nodules filled with a viscous fluid. The stone lands into a moving stream and can be swallowed by fish.
Wrinkle Dog[edit]
Mentioned by the Pkunk. The Wrinkle Dog is a creature that can assist Charg beasts in attacking packs of Ibids. Wrinkle Dogs generally do so in groups of seven or eight.
